I feel really stupid. :o I am new to Digital photography and new to PSCS. I am shooting Raw with my 20D and loving life, but when I open my raw files in CS (I installed the Raw plug-in to allow this) I will not give me the option of saving as a Jpeg file in the “save as” command. I read the user guide, but it makes it sound as though I just ought to be able to do it. Like I'm missing the obvsious.:o
So I installed the jpeg 2000 plug in and I could save in that format. :) I really do not want that format though, I just want plain old jpeg. But I can still not save in just a jpeg format:mad: What am I doing wrong?????

You need to chnage the image from 16-bit (per channel) to 8-bit (per channel) before doing "Save As...". Do that by going to Image | Mode | 8 Bits/Channel

But now you'll never forget to switch to 8-bits, will ya? Beating your head for 2 days makes you remember this kinda thing. :-)

I always save in TIFF for archiving. I also save an untouched 'negative' ... the CRW.

For Jpg, I just use Save As For Web...

Concerning the 8-bit thing.... If you are going to be changing the photo drastically with filters, color adjustments, and what not use 16-bit editting and than just before saving convert to 8-bit.

I highly doubt that you'll notice a difference, but if you then open it again and again to make edits... For a final save though, it's fine. Alas, I never know if it'sa final save so I always save at 16-bit.
