I am looking for a service that allows me to host a large archive of photos, that allows people to search and browse the archive and order prints directly and I then recieve payment minus costs/commission.

I have looked at both zenfolio and smugmug but neither are right for me due to their inability to meet the needs of photographers based outside the US or Canada.

MPix who does the printing for zenfolio will not ship to any countries outside the US or Canada. I also believe that there are issues with zenfolio as far as meta tagging for SEO - zenfolio includes a heap of tags that are relevant for their business but not for the photographer who has an account with them.

Smugmug will not pay photographers by electronic transfer, they only issue cheques (checks for you American folk) in US dollars. For me to deposit a cheque in US dollars into my bank account I am hit with hefty bank fees, take a hit on the foreign exchange (another bank grab) and the funds aren't cleared for 28 working days.

To my knowledge neither allow you to set prices in any currency other than US dollars.

I have also looked at Exposure Manager and it doesn't seem to meet my needs either due to the payment by cheque issue.

If there is a service out there that offers a similar product to zenfolio or smugmug, that will ship prints world wide, pays electronically and allows you to set prices in your local currency I'd love to know about it!

You might want to look at progalleries.com.au. They take a commission on your sales, but don't charge a yearly or monthly fee. The site itself isn't the prettiest I've seen but works well enough. They don't have any limit on storage that I've been able to find.

I wish they did ship world wide or I would have signed up with zenfolio!

I'd sign up with smugmug if they offered electronic payment! I can't believe that an internet based business pays by cheque! How 19th century!

I also asked about this a while back and encountered the same difficulties as you. If you aren't from the US, sites like zen and smug just don't fit.
I have been struggling to build one on my own in the meantime, but I know nothing of code, so it is an uphill climb.

I will admit that I choked a bit when I read that SM pays out via cheque:eek: I'm sure it wont be like that for long, having said that, It would be a mammoth task to get all their existing user details transfered to an electronic system.

Yes, we are embarrassed actually :( It is on our to-do list, but unfortunately it is not the very top. Stay tuned.

I've heard little about collages.net You might want to check them out. I know they also work on sales and don't charge a monthly or annual fee. Whatever you sell they get a piece of the pie.

Here's the price list

I looked around but couldn't tell if they ship overseas or not. They are in the US and they have a toll free number (Not sure if it's toll free for you) but you could call and ask them.

Good Luck!

This thread is from 2008 originally, so much of this information is outdated.. for those of you curious about services offered.

Oh, sorry, didn't look at the date. I just noticed it had a recent reply earlier today and figured I'd throw in my two cents. :)
