I've spent another weekend chasing the Great Gray Owls. Unfortuneately there is another member here that has set a standard that is going to be very hard, if not impossible to reach. I'm sharing anyway!!

No problems getting them in the trees (it almost seems to easy now) but these flight ones are tough. I was joined by another person yesterday and from what I saw initially, he is going to have some good ones.

Very, very nice, Sheldon. I reallty like the monochromatic tone of the 1st shot. BTW, did you notice this guys probably is due for a couple of new tail feathers?

And the second one! Check out how sharp his eye is! I can almost see a reflection of you in it.

Sometimes it is enough to just be a part of the game . . . your work is excellent. I love the 'high bar' around here. Gets me out shooting. Can't take shots on the couch. There is always someone whom can get closer or such . . . unnerving at times.

Nice shots Sheldon. Too bad you can zoom out with that 500mm. Yeah, I know, the zoom mechanisims on that lens are due for a replacment.

Just to give people some idea of how large these great gray owls really are, here's a shot of Sheldon in action shooting his very cooperative "model". I think he was going for that 3/4 frontal shot of the face with the 500. :D

And here's a closer view of him. Notice the perfect "neutral balance" stance so important for shake-free camera handling?

Sweet but #2 is really great. Too bad that while you and Leo were out playing
that I had to be cutting wood in order to heat the house next winter. The sacrifices one makes for long lenses.:)

Wow Sheldon, I think your pictures are at the bar, at least.

Sheldon, you can lower the bar a bit. You just have to find the right brand of mechanical, wind-up mouse that can hop around over the snow. Then you'll have more owls that you'll know what to do with.

I have to know....

What's a gas lens?

I first heard the term when IandD told me Sheldon has a big gas lens.

Just wondering.

I think they're awesome shots ... but seriously, these Owls look like they're made of the same stuff as Sock Monkeys!

I think you cleared the bar and are on your way down to the soft mat!

What's a Sock Monkey? Have you got any photos? :)

Fantastic photos.

I wish I could find some owls in the wild here in Denmark but there are not many and they are in the opposite end of the country - not that Denmark is that big
