Took this the other day after sunset. I really like the shot but am not happy about the branch in the middle :(

all comments welcome

I like where you're going with this. Great blur.
The bottom half does nothing for the pic IMO. I would go concentrate on the beatiful set of rapids.
It's also a bit on the dark side. There's no detail in your shadow areas.
If you could pick and angle with that line of rocks as your near foreground and the rapids as the main subject you'd have something to write home about.
Go back and give it another go. Cheers:)

thanks for your comments blur,

I have o say though I disagree, I liked the photo for exactly the reasons you didn't. I like the contrast between the moving rapids and the still pool below, and the darkness of the shadows is how I was aiming for, but each to his own. I will post again in the critique forum to gather more opinions.

cheers,

How did you take the shot? Did you use a tripod? What were the shot settings?

Also, check my critique in the critique corner.

I'll agree with you there. The contrast is nice. I think it's the composition I'm not crazy about. I'd call it top-heavy for lack of a better word. If you could find a way of angling so the rocks cut across diagonally while still including most of the pool I think it would be more pleasing (to me:))Maybe not possible considering the location?

Yes, was on a tripod, there was barely any light left so I had to use a pod. shot settings were:

20 sec, f/5.6, ISO 200, 42mm (EFS 18-55).

Also see my reply in the corner !
