wow looks pretty exciting. i don't use my backup s2 much these days but maybe i'll upgrade if the sx1 becomes available at a good price.
which one would you pick and why. i would go for the sx1 simply for 1080p video.

They look great, i'm getting one of these, just not decided which yet, check this out which shows the main changes between the two.

CMOS sensor in the SX1 but it's still only 1/2.3inches so it's just faster, not better quality.

SX10 because the video is probably a joke and not worth the mucho extra cash I'm sure.

SX10 's ccd is not made by Canon.
I'd like to know the benefits of CMOS over CCD (other than HD Video).
Two similar cameras with same sensor size, lens pixels really invites in-depth scrutiny.
Too bad they discontinued the use of AA batts.

According to Dpreview, SX1 might not be available in US. Is it because of FullHD? Why?

no RAW otherwise looks a great carry round/holiday camera. Will wait for reviews to see how they handle noise above ISO 200.

I don't know, but that's what I read as well.
The newly announced 5dII sports 1080p HD and is a pretty touted feature, so I'm not quite sure.

I am really interested in seeing a full review on the SX 1. I currently use an XTi and for what I use my photos for, I think the SX 1 might be less fooling around and still great photos for the high end DVD slide shows that I make. The HD movies would be a real plus too.
I might just be selling the XTi soon and going with the SX 1.

Waiting on a review of the SX1 IS. If it's good enough, I'll have it brought over. I have no reason to buy the SX10 IS. It's essentially what I already have with my A640.

Your A640 has 20x zoom and hotshoe? :p
I wonder how much that'll cost to bring it over. I'm not sure about all this hype when you could buy an HD camcorder for what it'd cost to bring over. 500 euros/pounds is $1000. more or less. Can't be that great.

I cannot find anything, yes or no, about a TC or wide angle add on. Has anyone seen any info on this?
dithiolium

I don't think there will be a wa or tc for the sx series.
its 28-560mm quite a good range already.
The pics from photokina show a lens hood attached

I re-read the spec listing on DPR, it says: Telecoverters - Yes.
Not specified which accessories though.

Well I meant in terms of what I use a point-and-shoot for. The 20x zoom is cool, but it's not a selling point, nor is the hotshoe. I can't see myself ever using an external flast on a point-and-shoot.

Because of this new relase of SX1/SX10 in possible that S3..S5 series have no succesor in the next year?
Jon

Between the SX1, which looks like a straight upgrade to the S5 (EVF, increased zoom range, external flash), and the EOS XS, you've seen the successor.

Can anyone aproximate when someone from the profesional photography make a full review of SX1????
Must to wait december for the comercial launching to read a full review?

DigicIV finally got rid of the mjpeg video, giving us the more useful MP4 and HD. But apparently the US will not see it. Go to canonusa.com and see that its not there. But for everyone else, its looks like a nice P&S.

There is NO WAY I'd get the SX10-IS over the SX1. I've always viewed the Sx-IS series to be an excellent stills/video hybrid and HD resolution simply tops that off.
I'm more interested in the 5D Mark II right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if I got one of these SX1s. They look like ALOT of fun.

I'm confused how people don't see this just like the A2000 is the new A720.

Same people who were convinced Canon released the XS as a successor to the XSi. If the name doesn't match, it can't be the same line . . .

1. SX1 make full HD movie. The question is what speed should have de memory card SDHC to support full hd recording? The hd video has a speed of 17MB/s. A SDHC with 20MB/s speed, at 16GB is very expensive (100Euro)..... The same SDHC, at 6MB/s cost 30E!
2. I repeat another question - Usualy, how many time must to wait to read a full profesional review of SX1? The bigest photography sites wait the comercial launching?

Where did you get that from? Last time I heard, the VGA mode does 17Mbits/sec., which gives you your usual ~2MB/sec. speed. The HD on the other hand has a bit rate of 38.6Mbits/sec. and equates out to around 4MB/sec.
17MB/sec. sounds almost bordering on the absurd! Furthermore, 12 minutes at that would require a 12GB SD card.

I just picked up the SX10 IS today from Best Buy. I went in and talked to the kid in the photo department. I said "Circuit City has it on sale for $359." He said "No problem, let's ring you up". I said "Okay then!". I got my reward Zone points and walked out with a bag filled with a Canon camera and away I went. Truth be told, it was on CC's website at $379, but who's counting. I saw it elsewhere for $359. (If anyone wants to go after me for the cheap tactic I used today, feel free, but I won't listen...)
Anyway, moving on. So far, I can't say enough about it. I have owned the S2 IS, the S3 IS and the S5 IS so I do have points of reference. This one is better in so many ways it's tough to even begin to say. It's not as though it's SO MUCH BETTER as to throw your S5 under the bus, but I must say that in the 8 hours I have owned it, I don't regret the purchase one bit.
On a side note, one nice thing about being part of the Best Buy Reward Zone program is the perks. I am now a "Silver" member which gives me a 45 day return option on everything I buy. Normally on cameras, it's only 14 days by default, but I now have 45 days to return it. I am fairly certain I will not return it, however as I am in love so far.
I currently have a Canon EOS Rebel XSi and a bunch of high quality lenses. I am fairly certain that I will be selling my entire setup and going only with the SX10 IS. I know some may call me crazy and some may praise me, but I am sick of having to drag everything with me to go shoot some photos. Now, with one camera, I can do wide angle as well as super-tele. I think this ONE camera answers all of my needs. Time will tell, but at least I have almost 45 days to make that decision.
One last thing; For all of you on the fence about getting this camera, don't be afraid. Just pull the trigger(lol) and do it. I am almost certain you won't regret it. I know I don't.
BTW - I wish the SX1 IS was available in the USA also, If it was, I would be selling my SX10 IS for it, but I'm not going to drop a grand on essentially the same camera just for the HD capability. If they do decide to bring it over and the price is reasonable, I will gladly trade up, but for now, I am jubilant!

this seems crazy to me indeed...unless you're selling for financial reasons...it seems to make more sense to use the SX10IS as a back up...for when you don't want to carry everything...
also the wide is only 28mm...which to be honest...isn't really wide
any chance you can post some high ISO shots...that's the main reason i jumped to the SLR

Craig,
Just curious, what makes it 'better in so many ways it's tough to even begin to say'? I've owned an S3-IS in the past and I'm interested in the SX1-IS. Thanks!

Sorry, I don't have much time to write as I'm heading out for the weekend. As for "DreDaze" and your statement about me being crazy, well, unfortunately it is for financial reasons. I lost my job this summer and have had difficulty finding another decent job to fill the void. That means that most non-essentials must go.
