calmer winds and changing but nice light got me feeling much better about things. shot these all as jpegs rather than RAW and despite loving so much of what RAW can do, I think the images came out nicer as jpegs. Thought that was odd but hey, it is what it is. I also shot with and without the TC attached and saw little difference in IQ this time (making me think the wind was just screwing with me the other day). Learning things like positioning and stuff is still a learning curve since moving to a prime but with just a little more practice, I think I'll sort that out (thought I had but did find it tough at times still).

Since we are still w/o power in much of our community, the game got moved from 7pm (under the weak HS lights) to 4:30 . This was a very late announcement via the web and as a result, I missed the first half but managed to get some action in the second. Game ended in a 1-1 tie in a real defensive battle around midfield.

On to the images, CC always welcome and appreciated.

Thanks Dan, Javier, and Cory. I was very pleased with results in terms of IQ. One thing that I didn't mention is that I changed my workflow a little this time. I opened the jpegs (not RAW) in PSE6 and lifted a shadow here or there, cropped and straightened. Then I did the huge jpeg faux pas of opening again in DPP and applied a little sharpening there instead of PSE6. What I found is that the jpegs (I think +3 sharp/+1 contrast n camera) looked cleaner sharpened in DPP than in PSE. Wierd but whatever.

Scott what are your settings for jpgs in camera. I usually shot RAW but for football I found myself hitting the buffer quite a few times last fri. I'm going to switch to jpg this weekend.

I switch it up from time to time depending on lighting but for general use (decent light), +3 sharp/+1 contrast/std tone curve. If light is really flat, I might go +2 contrast or if its harsh - 0. One thing I was taught a bit back is that its the contrast more than sharpness setting really makes the difference (w/ credits to Dennis W. for that tip).

I can't believe your 300+1.4 look that good, I gotta get myself a 1D - these are amazingly sharp.

I can't believe your 300+1.4 look that good, I gotta get myself a 1D - these are amazingly sharp. The 1D is nice but I'd rather have the 300 and a 30D than the 1D and lesser glass.

Thanks for the nice words Aram, appreciate that.
