I use the clone stamp tool at 50% Opacity under "Darken". I'll see if it works on your example. Back in a second.

I imagine you have a higher resolution image so fixing will be a bit easier... it will look more natural. I actually don't know where the 'shank' of the ring is :o so forgive me if I got the wrong hot spot. I also don't know how to add an image here so hopefully this works.

No it's not required. Photoshop is smart enough to bring out the washed out highlights without darkening the white background. Just select the tool like I previously wrote and use the same settings. Then press 'Alt' and click on an area right beside the washout area where it looks ok, and then release Alt and paint over the hot spot. Keep repeating the 'Alt' select on areas that look good and paint over hot spot, until it's gone. It takes a few seconds to learn and lasts a lifetime. Perfect for hot spots on people.

The image would actually be shown at a much lower degree of enlargement, so a higher resolution isn't needed.
Whenever you make detailed repairs in PS you should use the original size image and enlarge it to 100% on your monitor to do the work. Afterwards, reduce the image size if necessary.
