I'm planning on making a photo book with pictures of our dog, age 11, who had to be put down a few weeks ago. Attached is a photo of an old slipper he liked to play with, which I'd like to incorporate into the book. I'm hoping some of you might be able to offer suggestions re the composition/look of this photo, or offer other ideas re angles, backgrounds, etc. (I've tried a high angle view, an upside down slipper, a front on view--so far I like this angle best.)

All advice is greatly appreciated.

No offense, but I find it uninteresting. If I understood you correctly, you want the scrap book to tell a story. Consider that each photography each tell a story, as well. I might try placing the slipper near something that associates this with your dog... for example, place it near where he (or she) slept or allow other things he played with.

I'm not too excited about the angle. Have you tried laying the slipper on its side or prop it up against something? Maybe you show us some other angles that you have tried.

It's too bad your dog was put down. It's obvious that your dog meant a lot to you.

I agree, perhaps get a few of his things together and let them tell a story tiogether,,,

Sorry about the loss.but thats a good ol age ..never enough years are there:(

Thanks for your replies. I agree that by itself on this page, it does look pretty uninteresting. I foresee using it at the end of the book, as a final statement, kind of like JFK's rocking chair, sitting empty. (overly melodramatic, I know!)

Any other ideas re composing the shot of a single slipper?

I am supposing you have a blanket, or dog bed he used? I would haphazardly put them on the bed and then take a shot? Did he have a leash hanging on the door knob or nearby? There are so many things one could put into a composite.

We have had so many pets , and there are always a few mementoes
that were kept..

if that's what you want... i'd place it somewhere lonely... as if the slipper has lost a friend...

as the last image in your scrapbook, i can imagine a polaroid or snapshot of your dog leaning against the slipper in this picture... composed as it is

here's an example of what I'm thinking... it's a super quickie... gotta run to class!
