Yep, try and guess what they're sitting on - that part's kinda tricky.

Tim:

Did you take those with the Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro? And if so, at what distance from the subject?

More importantly, though, who is that amazing chick with the headphones?

Yes I used the macro lens, and I was at its minumum focusing distance, about 6 inches. Lighting's really difficult, if you point a flash directly at it you get a big white reflection in the drop, even if you use an omnibounce. With ceiling bounce you need a lot of light. You also have to take into account the effects of the different lights hitting the CD at different angles. I'm not done with this experiment yet. NB: if anyone tries this, I highly recommend that you use blank CDs/DVDs.

2nd question: Mia Stone - google her, just not at work ;)

That first shot on a dvd and the second a CD? at first i was thinking the original PS2 DVDs would look neat but that would be too dark of a blue. I just looked at the bottom of my DVD+Rs. Now I just wish I could find a place to rent a 100mm 2.8

Great job by the way

Cheers, and yes it's a DVD first, and the CD 2nd. I had 3 different colors to play with, those were the best shots. Using brushed steel as a background didn't have enough contrast with clear drops of water to be interesting, i'll try something another color some time, and maybe oil too.
