View Full Version : Cormorant landing on light-pole

Saturday I was shooting some cormorants along the Mosel-River and was lucky to get this shot of a cormorant landing next to another on a light-pole 30-40 meters away from me.

I was less lucky with the technical aspects of the picture.
20D with 75-300 at 300 mm
f/11 (sharpest for this lens...)
1/800 sec
ISO 400

I applied some cropping, removed a antenna in the lower part of the picture that was from a house on the other side of the river, and did some USM.

Very good shot! Those look like what we have in Florida, Anhingas :)

Great capture. Looks like he need a little more flap to avaoid knocking his buddy of the light!

On this picture you can see that there is place enough for more than one on the light-pole ;)

Judging by the pole these guys must stop by quite a lot! :) Great image - any with their wings stretched? I love these birds but the UK government has just sanctions a massive cull because they have bowed to pressure from fishermen who say they eat too much!!

The light-poles are part of a 'channel' (a construction in the river that allows ships to go up or down several meters, sorry don't know the english word...)
So here fish are blocked a bit from swimming downstream. I guess that's why cormorants prefer this place.

The other pictures are too bad, OOF mainly, but I'll return, the place is about 10 km from home. It's a nice place to try tracking with the 20D

The cormorants find that there are too many fisherman emptying the rivers of fish.
That way, the cormorants job (fishing) has become too difficult.
Now the question is : Will the government allow shooting of fisherman?
