I know how I do it, but I'm really interested to see if there's a better way?

I'm also curious how you handle different screen resolutions, or do you just default to 72dpi?

In advance, thanks.

I dont worry about resolution, I just pay attention to pixel size and make sure to keep the largest (width or height) under 800pixels

but the cay I usually do it is either of these two ways (both done in Adobe PS.. any version). Hit ctrl + alt + zero that will make the screen size a one to one pixel size. at that point you can use the crop tool to find what you want(hint hold space bar and drag the mouse to move the canvas arround

the other way, is if I am comparing more than one shot I will make a 100% crop of the first and then copy paste / drag layer on to the first crop, then move the layer to the spot that I want.

the only other way I would guess to do it would be going to image, canvas size and reducing the size there, but you loose all visual controll over the area you are cropping
