Photo Contests

So what is the status of the Photo contests? Are we waiting on some forum leaders to make a decision? I am not sure how this forum is run. Do we need someone to offer a new challenge to get things started?

The general feeling was, if I understood it correctly, to give them a short break and come back with a fresh perspective. Some changes were suggested too, I left it to forum staff to start the next one, since the last one, nobody entered at all, despite us all having the ability to 'pour a drink'. I'm unsure 'Challenge' is the right word for them anymore since nobody seem upto the 'challenge' from week to week, instead, preferring to drag images out of their libraries and post those instead.

Personally i've lost the love for it as everyone got so lax. Can't remember who it was, but one person wrote 'exif in the picture', which I took for extreme laziness. Just post it if you know how to read it, not everyone does, in fact, not everyone knows what exif is anyway, or even if they have it in the first place; so posting your settings can often help new owners who are keen to get started. This was an important thing for me when I first joined, it learned me a lot, and I was sorry to see it dwindle away.

We seem to have lost the want and the effort, save for a few. I think the focus has been lost in recent months and really needs an overhaul before it starts in earnest again.

I just took it as a given that people seem to prefer embedded EXIF rather than otherwise. My bad. :oops:

You won't get the moderators to start the photo contest up again (we're quite busy enough, thank you!). Competitions on here have always sprung from the members. An extreme example of this is the POTN book, now setting up for its third year. It's totally up to you whether you want the PowerShot competitions to resume, or if you decide to enter into some of the more general competitions, or just do nothing.

Well I'm game. Maybe something similar to what we had. Less specific and everyone gets to vote. Vote for your pick of 1st, 2nd and 3rd. 5 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd and 1 point for each 3rd place vote. Whoever gets the most points wins and the contest starter gets to break ties. Winner starts the next contest. I think this would get more people offering input on the images that were entered. I entered a couple and I don't know if anyone saw them and thought they were great or they sucked. If it is ok I will start one, if I hear nothing back I will assume it is ok. ;)

Fine by me bud ... fire away, and lets hope for a better response from the community; it seems people thought there was a click in place, others seemed to just loose interest. But ya, i'm still up for it.
