Hello, I am attending a friends wedding today and taking along my camera. The bride and groom have a professional photographer there and I'm just wondering how do I get some good shots without number one getting in the way of the hired pro and the family and friends.
I've never really shot any people before, I"m very timid or shy when it comes to that because of my lack of experience, I'm much more comfortable on landscape, cars, some motorsports. I'm already getting nervous and I'm only a guest.

By all means, do take pictures when the pro sets them up, but DO NOT shout to the subject, "Look over here!" When people do that, everybody gets pictures of people looking different ways. Otherwise, just stay out of the pro's way.
The other thing to consider is that many wedding photographers have a second shooter on hand to get candid shots of a photojournalistic style. These are generally more evocative shots that the staid poses anyway. Be the second (or third) shooter and get these shots. A short telephoto is useful in this context.

Well I have my 24-70 on the camera but I do have a 150mm Sigma too, should I put that on instead? 1.3x crop camera

Thanks for the tips but I SUCK! Didn't know what I was doing, a 1D is not the best low light camera handheld and the images sucked. So disappointed with myself. I'm still recuperating from bronchitis and I was all shaky, that didn't help but I felt like a fish out of water. I feel like selling all my ****.
Heres a couple links.

I used a Speedlite 430 with a Stofen at 60 degrees.

Don't sell yourself short. I quite like that first one.

No. Don't do that. People are going to look at you just because you have a big camera. You won't have to shout at them.
Wait until the pro does his thing. THEN you can have your fun.

Thank you for the kind comments, I was in foul mood because I felt like I had ruined my opportunity to give the couple some more shots. I did manage to get a few shots but there were 2 shooters, one on the grassy nole, had to throw that in, no seriously the main photographer was there along with an assistant as well a video person. So I just took when I could, and even moved from some spots to allow the paid pros and the video person to get the shots they needed. I'll post up some shots in the wedding thread when I get them uploaded.
I'm feeling better now but I do need to consider moving into another camera if I want to be able to capture more quality pictures in low light if handheld. Thanks again.
