Hello,
I am thinking of upgrading my Tamron 17-35 & 24-70 f/2.8 lenses for Canon L lenses. I am doing Glamour/Nude photgraphy.
Questions:
1) Is it worth upgrading to Canons L lens over Sigma, and Tamron Lenses?
2) What Lenses do you guys use in your work doing Glamour/Nude photography?
3) What Lenses do you recommend Canon or Third Party lenses?

Since most G&N is straight portrait work, you probably wouldn't need the faster auto-focus of a Canon lens. Your subjects are pretty still and you will be working on framing. Image Quality between the Tammy 28-75 and the Canon 24-70L is extremely close.
I'd mainly dump my money into lighting, which you have a great start on, and photoshop, which you will have to get really good with.

Yes true, but my Tamron 28-70 f/2.9 XR Di lens I do not think it will work on Full Frame cameras like that replacing the 5D, which I plan on upgrading. So been thinking Canon 28-70L or the 24-105L?

From tamron.com
Di (Digitally Integrated) Lenses
Lenses designed for superior use with digital SLR cameras and conventional cameras.
so it will work on a 5D.
the ones that won't work are the Di-II Lenses
Lenses designed for digital SLR cameras with smaller imagers (see Quick Guide (http://www.tamron.com/lenses/assets/pdfs/A014_quick_guide.pdf))

The lens and camera should be the last thing you upgrade for glamour work - there are a lot more important things to acquire and spend your money on.
*Retouching skills and software
*Studio Lighting
*Light modifiers (stripboxes, dishes, reflector grids, e.t.c.)
*Set dressings & backdrops
*Wardrobe/styling
*Grip equipment
You can shoot glamour with just about any half-decent standard zoom and DSLR - it's the stuff I've listed above that makes the image.

I have four strobes, light modifiers, props, wardrobe, and grip equipment alaready. My courses this semester are actually photo retouching, and am only shooting manual mood right now no AF as required for classes. So working on those skills now.
Would 24-70L be better then 24-105L or vise versa? I know there is a price difference, and you lose a stop. I have heard 50/50 which lens people like better. My focus is for glamour.

Have you given any consideration to a fast prime?
That said, I love my 24-70L and wouldn't part with it for anything. (But, I don't shoot G&N.)

Where will you be doing most of your shooting? Is it a large space where you'd even be able to use the longer focal length? It's my understanding that the 24-70 is sharper than the 24-105, although I know there are some bad copies of the brick out there. Mine isn't one of them. It's the lens that sits on my camera most of the time. However, when shooting portraits, if everything is static and I can use my feet for zoom, then I typically use the 85 f1.2L or 50 f1.2L for even better IQ. If I need the extra flexibility of the zoom, then the 24-70 f2.8L, especially at f8 and above, is still fantastic.

Why not get a better prime?
Is it better to go with a 24-70L over a really nice prime?

Why do you want to upgrade? what do you feel is limiting about the Tamron? At the sort of apertures you'll be shooting studio glamour at, I doubt that you'd see any difference if you upgrade lenses. You can shoot the front cover of a men's mag with a superzoom (and I have) - you don't need boatloads of sharpness or resolution, what's important is the content of the shot.
I currently have the 24-105L, but I'm a prime shooter and I only really use the zoom in studio when I need to shoot fast or use an awkward focal length. If I shot with zooms I'd probably have chosen the 24-70L so I could shoot at f/2.8 if necessary, and paired it with a 70-200L. Any sharpness difference between the 24-70L and 24-105L is so tiny as to be irrelevant.
In your situation I'd probably pick up a used 5D which would allow you to use your existing lenses more effectively for studio work. Or buy yourself a nice prime that will allow you to shoot with a shallow depth of field. The 50L is my favourite prime for glamour - the colours, the bokeh, the vingetting, the contrast, e.t.c. all help to create beautiful shots.

I find that I'm using my primes more and more in my G&N work. Specifically, the 85 f/1.2L and the 135 f/2L on my full frame bodies.
I don't think the manufacturer of the lens matters so much as the image quality you're getting from them. If you already have good lenses, lighting is far more important an aspect.

Someone has extra cash and wants to buy a lens;)
1) Is it worth upgrading to Canons L lens over Sigma, and Tamron Lenses? NO
2) What Lenses do you guys use in your work doing Glamour/Nude photography? Tamron 28 to 75 and Canon 70 to 200 F4L
3) What Lenses do you recommend Canon or Third Party lenses? Depends on what lens you are talking about. Canon makes some crap lenses and so does Tamron and other 3rd party. You have to do your research

Well just orered the Canon 5D Mark II. Was not sure if the Tamron SP XR 28-75 f/2.8 Di and the Tamron 17-55 f/2.8 Di lenes would work on the 5D Mark II. So was one of my main reasons upgrade to the Canon L lenses.

It is all confusing. I emailed Tamron asked them if these lenses would work on 5D Mark II. They emailed back said yes, only the "Di II" will not work.
I best email them again, see my main reason to just upgraded to canon lenses, you'll know they work.lol

Well just call Tamron Tech Support.
They say all Di lenses will work, they were made for Film and Digital bodies. Ask about my two lens 17-35 f/2.8-4 and 28-75 f/2.8 Di lenses said both will work on Canon 5D Mark II.

I only own a 85mm f1.8 but since buying it have found that it's all I seem to use for Portrait work be it G&N or not. Do wish I'd not been a tight***e and sprung for the f1.2L at times, but "She who must be obeyed" is easier to live with this way.

Sorry boy- I must have gotten wrong info. I was sure the 17-50/2.8 was only for crop frames.

man, i cannot say enough good things about this lens. i shoot a lot of G&N as of late, as well as my fashion stuff for work, and no matter what i'm shooting or where i am, this lens is on a body.
i love my primes, but i love the 24-70L. it's sharp and allows me complete control all over my tiny little studio.
