I have an XTi with the BG-E3 grip, and it has rubber on the grip, as well as the back, making it super easy to hold.
I notice in pictures posted here in the FS: forums, that the back of the BG-E2 grip for the 40D, is smooth. Looks like smooth plastic to me. Why?
Why isn't it grippy rubber like on the front of the BG-E2? Thoughts?

That's the first thing I wondered when I took it out of the box. I'm still thinking of buying some steering wheel cover to hack onto it.

I don't know but I do not like that about it. I also wish the batteries would load from the side like the xti grip did.

Yeah, the BG-E2 grip design really isn't Canon's crowning achievement.

After you start using it, it's not going to make any difference whether it's smooth or not. I'm sure I also noticed it the first time I got it because the grip for the 10D, which is where I came from, was made much better. The BG-E2 does what it's supposed to do and whether the back is smooth or not doesn't change that.

Good point and probably why I haven't got around to it. :)

Now if they could make it like the BG-E4 for the 5D, it would be a winner. Too bad they don't interchange...I think it would annoy me though, with moist palms = slippery grip. No?

I have always noticed that does anyone else think that it makes it look cheap?

Yes they are pure junk.
Would anyone like to sell me theirs at a good price so they do not have to look at that smooth plastic?:D

I think the BG-E2 is one of the worst Grips Canon has ever made. Thing is just so bulky and doesn't look right with the camera.

I like the bulk but I have large hands. I do with it looked more like the 5D grip and lined up with the body better.
