Finally, the first fine evening since purchasing my 20D 8 days ago!
All I've managed to do so far were people shots, which I really don't like doing, as I have a lack of knowledge in doing those.

Landscape shots, are to me much easier, and free the mind, whilst watching a beautiful sunset.
I even tried a go at shooting some surfers, but they were backlit, it was just past sunset, and I was using a limited 70-300mm Sigma. So as expected, the results were, ah... CRAP.

Arrived only 10min before sunset, normally I have more time to take a walk around.

Looking South along the beach, you can see the rugged terrain. Xena was shot around here a few times.

As I said, the surfer shots, weren't good at all, but here is one anyway, and hid the fact it's bad quality.

Managed a shot of the sun, before it disappeared behind cloud for the final 5min of the sunset!

And that rugged terrain, just turns into a beauty in low light.

And why not add in the Surf Lifeguard tower!

And now looking towards the Northern end of the beach.

And walking away, just couldn't resist one final shot, 45 minutes after sunset!

I didn't tell you what I do for a living did I!
I could not only get into the safe, but I also have a way of getting it out of the bank unseen

Wazza these are an insult to New Zealand, Canon cameras and me. I am disappointed that you got such poor results with your new equipment.

Wait. No. I mean, good stuff! :)

All those with the lifeguard shack are very good, IMO.

Thanks CDS and Reigh. :)

Just realising photography can be exhausting, when you add it on to your day job. I was out again last night pretty late, taking night shots aroud the city. Feel rather dead now.

Wow, didn't expect further comments! Thanks so much again. You have all made my day. Just what I need to motivate myself to go to work. Wouldn't it be so much more fun, to have it off, and walk around taking photos all day.

Marie: Yes, the weather is mighty fine currently. We had about 2 weeks straight of perfect weather, then a few days of very humid/wet conditions, and the temperture went even higher, it was 29*C officially at Auckland Aiport for several hours straight up till 5pm last week on Thursday I beleive, but that was when it was overcast. Almost like we were in the tropics. My suburb, was registering over 30*C a couple of days. I don't recall the last couple of summers being this hot. But we had a very late summer, due to bad weather in December. Summer basically hit us overnight.

Sunrise was earlier, but the sun started beaming through the windows when I was reading your post, so I took a couple of shots from the deck.

Had to take two, to expose the sky in one, and the greenery in the other. The sun is too intense, mixed with the dark valley. :D

Nice shots Wazza, but I have a question about the above photo. In this thread you said that you only had the 70-300 Sigma lens, but you also posted this picture in the 17-40mm f4L thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=57985).

Which lens did you use for this shot?

My wife and I celibrated our 39th wedding anniversary by spending 3 weeks in New Zealand in 1999. Seeing these shots and replys from other "kiwis" really makes us want to go back. Wonderful country, even better people! Thanks for sharing.

Sorry, miscommunication there. :D

The 70-300 was in reference to trying surfer shots, but was "only" using this particular lens for the surfers. And my feeling was it isn't a L lens, so that was my excuse for poor shots, and also they were backlit.

All my Airliners.net (http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?photographersearch=Warren%20Williams&distinct_entry=true) shots are done with the 70-300, except a few of those wideangles with the 17-40.
Anyway, it does a good enough job. :)

And thanks joris for bringing up an older post. I haven't shared too many shots lately. Been too busy actually shooting them, or at the airport. I've now done 16,000+ shots.

Thanks everyone else again.
And MarkoPolo I'm hoping you return in 4 years to celebrate your 40th. :)
