Has anybody heard something about an upkomming EOS Digital 70D?

I was curious about the EOS300D replacement to be announced at the PMA 2005 and simply searched the UPC database (www.upcdatabase.com (http://www.upcdatabase.com)) for any new registered Canon products. Of course I found the EOS 350D (Rebel XT), but I also came across a Canon EOS Digital 70D:

Search this database for "Canon" and you will find a lot more new stuff registered in 2005, among them a lot of lenses.

hmmm...
when you enter the barcode in amazon.com, you get this
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/102-5613139-6947336
(Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras)

Now I don't see why canon would change the code of a lens to a cam...

smells like hoax here... or just a typo...

Have heard some Chines whispers about a replacement to the 100-400mm L. Anyway that's what I'm hoping for, as long as it is not made in China :D.

I clicked the link, but also entered the site in google ...

Read the first page of the upcdatabase web, you'll see that this base has nothing official. I think everyone can enter information there...

Famous brands spend millions to maintain originality in their product lines and marketing. It is very unlikely that Canon is going to produce a camera with a name so much like a Nikon. Now Bell and Howell might though.
Just my 2c.

Look up number 002513465529. It lists a Canon 10-2000mm L Series lens, and it only weighs 7 oz. !!!! I want one of those if the price is under $50,000.

If there are any items you would like to see in the database, just go to the add item section like I did (as well as the person that added the 70D i'm sure) and put in whatever you want.

Indeed a completely useless database. The EOS 3D is in there now to :) (082967214201 (http://www.upcdatabase.com/item.pl?upc=082967214201))

I feel stupid now :o

You find an UPC database on Internet and you immediately believe that it's an official registry of EAN codes? Have you looked at the home page http://www.upcdatabase.com/ ? It says:

"Welcome to the Internet UPC Database! One reason this site exists is for me to practice my own web development & database skills, experiment with new things, and to get a good laugh."

So, this is in no way an official database of any kind. People can enter any kind of bogus stuff in there.

There are also entries for a Canon EOS 350D (supposedly the new Digital Rebel), a 14 megapixel Minolta 9D (http://www.upcdatabase.com/item.pl?upc=043325995606), an 11 megapixel Pentax *ist DXs, etc...... all bogus.

Yes, I know now. You don't have to rub it in.
