I'll be doing my 2nd wedding as the primary shooter 0ct 25. The groom is white and the bride is black.
I'm worried about getting proper exposure for both. Any tricks or suggestions?
I'll be using a canon 40d 24-70 f2.8L and a 580exII. I also have an 85 mm f1.8

Good link. Keep in mind that, if you have to make a choice, only the bride counts. NOBODY cares what the groom looks like, including his mother! :D

yeah, haha, so true :-) ... always shoot to keep the bride happy! Good luck on your skin tone metering predicament!

The groom will be paying for the shots, one way or another, for a very long time. He only cares how happy his bride is about them (and that's all she cares about too, so everyone is happy :) ). In fact, is there a single wedding photographer reading this that can remember the groom being upset about the pictures when the bride wasn't? I doubt it'll happen, but I'd love to hear the anecdotes.

Good input, I'll make sure to concentrate on the bride. Thanks, Rod

So true...
"Who's the first guest at the top of the bride's list?"
The Groom...

I thought the brides mother was always top of the list, the groom comes 3rd or 4th

Shoot! Once, due to a time crunch issue, I never got a chance to get single portraits of the groom at the church... and no one said a thing!

We even discussed this in a college level photography course I took, then talking about white dress / black tux. Always always always expose for the bride. every little detail about a wedding is for the bride. It is HER DAY in life, what she lives for from the day she first saw Cinderella. In my contract it clearly states and I always point it out that I will listen to input from moms, dads, grooms, guests, etc. But no matter how big someone is or who is writing the check, I work for the bride and her alone.
