My wife and I are looking into an African photo safari in 2009. Do any of you have recommendations for tour companies? We are especially interested in organizations that cater to photographers. We've heard of some that limit vehicle occupancy to 3 or 4 people and that sounds ideal.
We are currently thinking of Eastern Africa/Kenya.
While photography is important we also want to experience Africa as well.
Thanks,
Art

My cousin went for a safari a couple of years ago but unfortunately I can't remember the name of the company. Did you try the internet yet?

ArtI've read some info about the Kenya tours and they look nice and they will run about $1,500 for everything I think if I have read that right.
We were looking for a safari likes your until my mother said she will not go on a plane so we opted for a Florida one "its small yes and its not going to be kenya yes I agree what a waste of time but it's for her pretty much.
In 2009 I'm also looking to do a photograph tour of Scotland for my asa requirements.
Good luck on your findings and trip "I'll be watching for those photographs"

He's based in Maun, Botswana, and focuses on southern Africa, so if you change your focus to that area, I would strongly recommend him.

Thanks for the replies so far. We have searched the internet but there are just so many choices. I was hoping for some first-party recommendations. We were trying to narrow it down to just photo oriented groups. Then my wife came across company that does personal, customized tours for less than the price of some of the photographer specific tours/workshops.
Please keep your suggestions coming in.

I went a while ago.... like'95 I think it was. We used Eastern African Ornatholigical Expeditions to go to Kenya. They specialize in birds (obviously) But will cater to what ever you want. They also own several camps so lodging was included. The vans they had hold 6 plus driver. The vans are a lot smaller than ours. Think European vans. But 4-5 was all you really want in them when shooting. We spent 3 weeks there. I did a google and found referanced to them. But I dont think they operate anymore.
This reminds me I have to scan them all in sometime.
