I bought a "Like New Canon A85" camera on ebay for my Grand Daughter. It arrived today, so I immediately tried to put it through it's paces to check it out 100% before I rushed it up to her.

The camera powers up Immediately and the Canon screen comes on the back screen. The Menu screen comes up and works perfectly. But when you turn the camera function on; the preview screen is full of static and No picture.

The camera sounds like it is taking a photo, the flash works; but when you try to read the photos there Are Only Black Squares. No Photos! :(

I have tried to contact the seller and I am awaiting a reply from her (she has a 100% feedback rating). Meanwhile, I am wondering what could be wrong with the camera. Does anyone have an idea just what the problem could be?

I paid for the camera with PayPal and even bought Insurance to cover my rear end, so I know I will be refunded totally for my expenses. :)
If not, I'll file Criminal Charges against the seller.

I would appreciate any ideas on what is wrong with the camera. :) Thanks in advance!

I would try contacting Canon about repairing this camera. It should be covered for free under the CCD recall/service notice. I'm a little worried myself, as my well-worn A85 is starting to show signs of CCD noise and lines...

I called Canon on their 1-800 number and talked to one of their Technicians. I told him exactly how the camera was acting and what function settings were. He clearly diagnosed the CCD Sensor as the problem. He is emailing me a Shipping label, an information sheet to print out and put with the camera. He told me that they will ship me back the camera Free of Charge in 10 to 15 days!:)
I knew there was a reason that I always purchase Canon Cameras! In fact, 99% of my family use Canon Cameras! :)
(The other 1% never were to bright!:lol: They use the other brand that starts with.......... nope, I'm not even going there!)

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I have an A95 that I bought brand new and I've never had a problem with it. Is there a common issue I should be aware of?

Touch wood, my A85 is still doing very well, though i've only taken a few thousand pics in the last 4 years of ownership.
