Just registered on this forum so hello all.

Bought an A75 for Wife & Daughter for Christmas. daughter has dropped it!
Lens only half extends and protective "shutter" stays open all the time. Camera will not focus.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I suspect repair will not be economical? Will I just have to bite the bullet and buy another one?

Well even if repair is possible and not too expensive, it will be a long time before it is repaired and returned to you - Id probably buy another one :(

If there is a Canon repair shop in your area, it might be worthwhile getting an estimate of cost and time required. Perhaps they would offer some kind of "trade-in" for an equivalent refurbished A75? You never know for sure until you ask. If that doesn't work out, it's too bad you're over in the UK (I'm in Canada.) I've always wanted a broken digital camera to dismantle, just to see what's inside ;-)

Have you got house insurance? Just claim on that if your excess is low enough.
