So what do you think of the image quality and the shots in general?

There was NO sharpening done at all.

I took these shots with a single Interfit 300 monolight facing directly at my co-worker shooting through the umbrella which was about 2 feet away from her face.

This picture was shot the same way, except I had another co-worker hold a 42" PhotoFlex gold LiteDisc on her left side, opposite the strobe.

Very nice lighting.
#2 has a more vibrant color tone to it than #1.

...still trying to decide if I like the angle. But what the #$@! do I know 8-)

I'm sure your subject was quite pleased with the portraits.

I agree about the lighting. The angle is a little off-putting, but worth a go.
Well done.

Thanks for the comments so far. And trust me when I say that I am in no way a photographer, I just have the equipment.

I just learned that little lighting technique from my manager who is an excellent pro photographer. The angle thing was just me messing around.

The whole purpose of these shots though were that she was wanting to test out the lights with her D70, and I wanted to try out my "new" old 50mm Mk I lens for sharpness. That lens definately is razor sharp!
