View Full Version : Attaching Water Filter to Kitchen Sink?

Little bit of a stupid question, I'm sure, but I'm not used to living apart from my parents, so it's something I've never had to deal with ;) I'm staying in an on-campus apartment now, and the water's nasty. I went and bought a water filter that attaches to the faucet, but I'm now realizing that our sink doesn't have the type of threading that you need to attach it (or any threading, for that matter). Anything that modifies the sink is out of the question, but is there any type of adapter I could get to solve this problem? Something to attach to faucet by friction or something, and hold on the water filter?

take a pic of the faucet and show us what there is. We might be be able to suggest something that would work if we can see exactly what there is.

Most kitchen faucets are internally threaded...

why not just get Poland Spring delivered? If the water is that bad, no filter is going to make it acceptable. Try a Brita Filter in a separate pitcher.

most sinks will have a thread where the aerator (spelling?) attaches.. you'll need to remove that and then thread in one of the adapters to the filter...

A small pair of pliers and turn counter-clockwise to remove the aerator.

He'll need to increase exposure to do that.

I use two britta one pitcher for room temp water and one 2.5 gal that gets set in the fridge. The work pretty good as well. You might check with your bldgs facilities folsk re: the filter. If they get snippy tell them you have a allergy to metals...

Ooh, that's clever. It definitely looks like the aerator is epoxied on or something to that effect, but I'm definitely going to see if I can get it taken off. If not, I'll just have to work up some contraption with cork...
