I am a photography hobbyist looking at improving my skills....this is a shot I took yesterday and want some honest C&C...thats the only way I can get better right ?

It looks good, but I think you should of included more of where the tracks lead to. I find myself wanting to look up the tracks.

I second that but still a nice shot ...More distance is what this shot yearns for then play with some different crops...Nothing specific but if it was my shot i would try play with crops....

I'm with KillerBlackbird. My eye wants to explore more at the top. Very interesting shot though.

I like it but it could be better.
If the shoe is of the switch then get higher and get more of an overhead that includes less track. If it's of the tracks make the shot a little higher to show something above the vaniishing point of the tracks in the distance.
The transition from forground in shadow to bright farther out disturbs me. Taken at a different time of day all would be in same light.
Still not a bad shot though.

Points taken...the shot was take at full light...hence the lighting difference you see, the shade was only provided by the parked train on the left side of the shot.
