Nice, I think I got the point you were going for. One comment - you should adjust the white balance so the page doesn't have a blue cast. Keep shooting!

good idea! work on crop/composition and make warm tone for paper to look it older.

ok... thank you, What do you think the white balance should have been? What do the different numbers in the white balance settings mean?

Very nice
I do go along with the with balance, if you are not doing so, I'd shoot in RAW mode this way you can adjust the WB in post processing.

First Congratulations on the XSi, and WELCOME to POTN! you will find more information here then you can consume, if you are willing to read and learn from others mistakes.
as others said. the shot does need a white balance, other things you should consider: the verse that you are trying to bring out is centered, you might want to try moving it off to one side or the other (suggestion of thirds) you may decide that this composition looks better. but definitely try different compositions.
you asked about what the white balance 'should' be set on. this all depends on the color/warmth of the light you are using to expose the scene. I shoot in raw, then usually just make a 'best guess' for the white balance using a preset 'cloudy', 'sun', 'tungsten', 'florescent', etc. then I fix the color in my post processing.
I am not sure what white balance numbers you are talking about, the (K) Kelvin numbers corrolate to the color temperature.
Definitely keep experimenting! and show us what you get! :D any more questions? ask away! or use the search feature if you are scared of sounding like a noob. lurking is a valid way to learn :D

hey pirho, thanks and thanks!
I'll look around for the white balance question cause im sure its been asked a few times.
I have asked tons of q's in some other forums but i like the canon specific one of this forum!
I am just learning about the rule of thumb about the 3...??? I forget what its called, but a good layout for taking pictures so that comment helped.
Thanks for helping me guys!
