Hi, I am looking forward to purchase my first digital camera. Good quality in auto mode w/ less noise, more zoom (6x or more) & faster response time are some of the features that I am looking for. After looking at some reviews I narrowed down to A720, SX100, SX110.. Do I need to look at any more cameras ? How is the SX110 compared to SX100 in terms of picture quality/noise? I read that these cameras have slow flash recharge time. Will it affect taking pictures if I want to capture instantly at the right moment ? I am slightly oriented towards SX110 as it is new. Please help me in choosing my first digicam... Thanks a lot...

I'd go for the newest one just for the slightly larger LCD, but honestly, all of the three are good choices.

The A720 is slightly different in that it has 6x zoom rather than a 10x zoom and the A720 has a viewfinder hole to look through while the SX100 ans SX110 rely only on the LCD to compose a shot. The A720 is also slightly smaller, but not by much.

Flash recycle times are not great on any P&S. Some are slower than others and these are generally a bit slower than some that use (4)AA cells. Just know that it can take up to ten seconds for the flash to recycle.

I haven't seen any pixel-peeper shots from the SX110, but it does have a slightly larger sensor, but it's cramming slightly more megapixels onto that slightly larger sensor. I'd expect it to produce similar output to the A720 and SX100 which share the same sensor.

I have the Sx100. It's far from my first digital camera and I also have a couple of DSLR's and nice lenses for them, but I have very much enjoyed my SX100 for what it is: A nice pocketable, easily carried compact digital camera that produces very nice photos in average conditions. All three of the cameras mentioned are capable of the same. I have mentioned the most significant differences in addition to price. Match the specs to your needs and budget and go for the one that suits you best.

I'd get an SX100 if possible. Much cheaper and it's the same camera and smaller actually. Canon's new models P&S don't offer too much in advancement. They hardly do.

I agree that the SX100 is cheaper but I don't know where you get your information that it's smaller than the SX110. If you look at the specs on both cameras, the newer SX110 is a tad bit smaller and lighter. The difference is inconsequential.

Of course the SX100 is getting difficult to find in new in the box.

I own an sx100is and the only 2 complaints I have is

1. Slow flash charge

2. Above ISO100, dark subjects have a lot of "noise"

That said, I really like this camera alot!! I am continually learning how the camera operates and each photo is a learning opportunity.

G9 is a great camera. What is your max price range?

Thanks for your suggestions...
I finally bought a A720 (due to some budget constraints and good offers I got) and I really like - great picture and video quality except under low-light indoor conditions where it produces slightly grainy & noisy pictures/videos.

One of the basic features that I find missing is the battery indicator !!!

The A720 is an excellent choice. Any P&S will have some visible noise at ISO 200 and above.

Many camera pouches have a small compartment on the front of them. I use that pouch to carry an extra set of batteries although I have yet to need them in a day of shooting.

I picked a 15 minute charger that came with a set of four NiMh 2500mah cells. Works great.

Have fun with your new rig!
