580ex overpowering

I've had this flash unit for 2 yrs or so. Many, many cycles. Lately, when shooting and possibly the flash gets hot, it goes waaaayyyy to hard, seriously overexposing the image. Even though camera settings and flash settings are exactly the same. Do I need to send it off???

I'll check that. I have had that happen on one of my older Canon Film cameras. But this does it on both my 20d and 30d, and my 550ex doesnt do it on either.
