Well since Dave L mentioned it in the my football thread thought I'd post it seperate and let that one die...

First solo cover, had one way back shared (5 photos) but that was many moons ago - 2003. I was there to shoot another kid for a cover but was a day late on the deadline and that darn Westerholt (SportsOnFilm - I know you're reading this) got the cover instead!! Luckily Matt was promoted and had him to shoot that game to and get this...on newstands now...

Just goes to show stock photos pay the bills, peak action shots pay for dinner out. Too many would have binned this because they follow silly rules like peak action and needs to have the ball in it. Congrats man.... that is great news.

Congratulations, Mike!! When I first saw this was your image I thought maybe you got it when you were shooting beside me at ST. I was a bit jealous until I noted your shot isn't of Matt in his ST uni.

Mark - That is VERY true and it took me awhile to get out of just stock shooting. For most places I work for the images are used for features on the player or for cards so these type images are wanted - I'd get lost in the action when I first started watching it instead of shooting it. Try to make sure that doesn't happen anymore but rarely do any of the places I shoot for use it.

Jerry - I just emailed you about possibly heading to FL for a two week trip to the instructs. Yup, it's official I lost my friggen mind!

Anyways, yea this was shot in Akron on a three day trip and second game of the day. I drove to Eastlake, OH (3 hours) to shoot Lake County vs. Delmarva at noon and then to Akron, OH (1 1/2 hours) to shoot Akron vs. Bowie because Matt LaPorta had just arrived - luckily so did this Matt. Then drove 3 hours to Jamestown and signed a one night deal with them (the hotel had me staying on there player list, so technically for one night I was a MiLB player according to that chain of hotels - luxurious) - then shot Jamestown vs. Brooklyn before heading home.

That's an average weekend for us MILB 'togs!

A luxurious MiLB team hotel?? That's either a bit of sarcasm or MiLB team hotels up north are far better than what we get down here. I replied to your email and sent you some FIL rosters and schedules. I'll not comment on your driving down from NY to shoot FL Instructs -- after all this is a public forum.

Chris and Ronnie...thanks, someday - feels like been waitin forevr for my first solo. Hopefully it's not another six years.

Jerry, yup that was sarcasm - it was a chain hotel but not that bad, only problem was you had to pay for internet $10/day which sucked - but I needed it to upload to the ftp - cant argue with free hotel though.

As for the drive to FL I spent about 5 hours last night trying to map that out, put together a schedule that hits every team but the Marlins because they break 2 days before I'd get there. Of course that's just a schedule and with instructs you just never know, so who knows what will actually happen. Now I'm just trying to figure out to drive or fly

Hey finally saw this one on the news stand... this 800 pixel limit is crap because the shot looks a million times better on paper. Great detail... good job. Cheers
