I'm interested in doing a course based in the UK. I want to learn the basics, before I invest in the eqipment that I need to do this at home. Due to the fact that I live in Guernsey costs have to be managable.

As I run my own site Copyright seems to be an issue with some that I have found. One has advised me that while under tution the copyright belongs to them! This means that I can publish the images on my website but only if linked back to the studio. I'm also not allowed to re-sell them! Even though I've taken them.

It's a bit like the chicken and egg senario, as I need to learn the skills first before I can book models etc. and do it myself.

Is this my only frustration or is this a common fact and will just have to live it?

Hi GIrven,

From what I understand of copyright it's entirely yours unless you have agreed otherwise.
Agreement may come in the form of a contract, verbal agreement, and small print amongst other means.i.e, If the course documentation states that by undertaking the course, you agree to terms and conditions stating that the copyright is the tutor's.

This also may help;

Hi Glen,

I'm sure he won't mind you contacting him (in fact I'll ask him tonight at the camera club) but you could do worse than seeking the advice of one of our (published) members who specialises in studio glamour work. He's a very pleasant, approachable young man. Here's the link to his web site: -

Hope this helps,
