It's hardly surprising that an earlier contributant in this thread regretted getting the Flipside 200. Lowepro claims it to be large enough for a DSLR with an 80-200 zoom attached, 1-3 additional lenses or flash units and numerous peripherals. It won't even take the camera and lens, never mind the rest of the kit. When I tried to complain to Lowepro they refused to put me through or give me a direct email address (there isn't one on their website). So I returned it for a full refund on the grounds that it bore no resemblance to their description. Sure, I'll get my money back but their idea of quality control and customer support is laughable.

I own the Flipside 300 and Flipside 400 and regardless of what Lowepro says, a gripped body is not going to fit very well in the 300. I have a gripped 7D and while the bag will zip shut the flash hotshoe sticks up enough that it will be poking your upper back when you wear it. The 400 will accommodate a gripped body but only after you remove a small pad designed to fit under an ungripped body.

I have the 200 and find that you CAN fit a DSLR and lens (plus an extra lens or two or one lens and a flash, plus some small accessories (batteries, quick release plates...). I usually use mine to carry a gripped 7D with 85mm 1.8 (hood reversed), 50mm 1.4 and 430EX flash. The 200 is obviously not meant to hold a gripped body, but it will fit with a little effort. I'll probably upgrade to the 300 or beyond sooner or later.

Here's a picture of the 300, inside is a gripped 20D w/100-400 (hood attached), 10-20, 28-135, 430EX.
The hot shoe can be a little uncomfortable due to the bag not being quite deep enough, but plenty of space with the grip removed, so I wouldn't say that it can't fit.

My planned gear list: 7D (non-gripped), 17-55 f/2.8, 580EX II, Tokina 11-16 f/2.8, (85 f/1.8 OR 100 f/2.8L IS - big difference in size I know), and 70-200 f/4L IS.

Will all that fit in the Flipside 300? With their respective hoods reversed? I'm thinking it may not fit, esp. if I get the 100 instead of the 85. The Flipside 400 just seems too big though.

I have both the 200 and the 300. I've just been out for the day with my 200. I took:

40D with 70-200 f/4 IS attached
Tamron 28-75
Canon 60 macro
430 eX Speedlite
Spare battery and CF card
Bottle of water

It fit into the bag very easily and I had no problem carrying it round all day. I could also have taken my monopod or tripod if I'd wanted.

I only use the 300 when I want to take all my lenses (not often). The 200 is a terrific bag.

I'm thinking of getting this bag with my 1Dsmk2 - must be a similar depth to the gripped 20d.... with te hotshoe sticking in you back, couldn't you put the camera in upside down to avoid this?

I would really suggest you try the bag out in a store before you buy. I tried my gripped 7D upside down like you said and it was still uncomfortable. Instead of a single point sticking up it was just a large bump, not sure which was worse.

hmmmm..... The Fastpack 200 has an internal depth of 15cm as opposed to the flipside 300's 13.7cm.

As you say, nothing beats going to a shop and trying them;)

I found the same thing, thus why I ordered a flipside 400 to replace my 300 :) The 300 is a great bag though, tough to replace.

I know;) But I'm kind of limited by the depth... my 1Dsmk2 is a tad over 15 cm tall so the 200 and 300 flipside are out..... The fastpack 200 however is 15cm deep..... Just thinking aloud!

True enough :) I hate how everything is just a tad to small or much larger then what you need haha.

Perhaps I should try and get a job with Lowepro and design one specifically for my gear!

I have the Flipside 300 and find that with my 1D3 body it fits just fine with no protrusions. I don't think it's taller than a gripped 7D...!
