I spent last year shooting volleyball in 45 year old college gym with very poor lights using my 70-200 f2.8. I was never happy.

This year I purchase an 85 1.8, increase my ss, and could not be happier.

i feel that you need a faster SS, bump up the ISO more and use 1/500

I feel that there's a tad too much motion blur on the ball, hand and feet, that would be #1, #2 and #4

Good work on catching them in action. I agree with the last reply, but also understand what its like to shoot in a dungeon. Number 3 is especially nice.

Thanks for the comments. But some of the player's body - like the feet in #4 is probably OOF. I'm shooting so close my DOF is - in come cases - about 4 inches.

I'm going to shoot some next week at a higher SS and 3200 ISO and see how that works out.

Having some parts of the player OOF is inevitable when shooting at f/2 and such. Just try to get their face in focus... that's the most critical part. There isn't much else you can do because of the lighting.

Wonder how what kind of results I would get with a 70-200 2.8 IS + 2x converter shooting at 3200ISO in this gym

Probably have to manually focus.

Well if my math is correct, if you use your 70-200 2.8 w/2x tele, your aperture will go to 5.6 (2 stop loss) which means with ISO 3200, your shutterspeed will be about 1/160th if you were in the same lighting as picture #1...good luck with that! :)

Nice shots btw!
