due to the waiver i signed, i can't put images here, but you can check out some (and my writeup) at www.gigwise.com. they made us shoot from the very back of the room (though some photogs ignored the 'back of the room' rule and made their way through the crowd) so i rented a 300 f/2.8 IS and it came in handy. no monopod, but hand-holding wasn't outrageous.
the entire weekend was mind-blowing (and exhausting). i shot about 28 different bands (and there was no pit in the main room), so i'll be compiling some shots for a different thread.

I tried to look at them, but that site is painfully slow. Might just be my connection though. Sometimes it gets screwy. The ones I did see were nice! I wish I had your job......

Wow, so you shot ATP...that is pretty rad. How many gigs does 28 bands equal?

well given my standard math, about 9 or so. it was madness! but great madness. not having a photo pit for the main room was the biggest drag, but it wasn't unbearable. i made lots of new friends who would let me squeeze up and shoot for a song, and there were also good sightlines around the middle and back of the room.

300mm f2.8L IS is my favorite lens. The website is too slow to use so I didn't look at much. Glad you're moving up in the world! :-)

well for people w/ transfer speed issues (which i don't observe on my end), here's the front page view:

Dwight, i have found that when you have a 300 f/2.8 + hood on yr camera, people move out of the way fast. :D

Damn, and I thought they were just impressed by my looks! Actually, I usually have the 300mm on one body and 70-200mm f/2.8L IS on the other body, one in each hand. I have handed one of the two to the nearest person in the audience so I could shoot and they just take it and hold it for me! :-)
