well know you got the storage that counts.
Pretec makes 64gb and 100gb compact flash cards.

Now this is some serious storage, although I think I would prefer a number of smaller cards just in case of corruption or manufacturing faults.

Jeeps. I'd worry too about the loss of one card though. Still impressive though.

It would probably be great for the new 5d's hd video though... no?

yes and no. the larger mp we get means we need larger storage to take the same amount. which means you have to buy more. it starting to sound like a cunning plan for companys to make us spend more money.
that's it I am not buying the 5dmk2 :(

I've not looked into the video aspect of the 5D MkII, however, that 100GB should hold close to 400 RAW images from the 5D MkII - That's a lot of images, but I can see the point you're making, especially if you have a number of lower capacity cards at lets say, 2GB, which would hold less than 80 images.
Of course, I may have mucked up my maths here and could be wrong.

between you and me, I am not going to do any maths. You get the idea and that what is what counts.

Did you mean to say 4000 instead of 400? You should be able to get close to 400 on an 8GB card.

Indeed, it should have been 4000 RAW images if they are around 25.8Mb per image - Whoops.

I certainly would not have any use for 4000 images on a single card... perhaps if you are looking to store a butt load of 4gb 1080p clips....

I just purchased 3 8GB UDMA cards in anticipation. So that is about 960 RAW. Plus the 8GB and 12GB I already have I'll have room for about 1760 RAW files. I guess I'm good for images. That is 2 hours worth of video. now I need the RRS L-Bracket and the grip with several extra batteries... Geez! At least the 5Dmk2 isn't using SD cards!!!

I'm afraid to use anything larger than 4GB cards. On my 5D, that means about 280 images ( I think). That's more than enough to risk, IMO.

Useful for those that cannot afford to change their CF cards due to weather, missed opportunity, etc.
The price isn't even that unreasonable... considering 32gb CF cards are ~$160 these days

Every few years I stop and think about all the previous memory that I've bought (HDD, flash, RAM) and how expensive all of it was when it was new. It almost seems like a waste, but I've got to have it. ...Sigh

Only 400...s I'd have to get that or suck it up with affordable 16GB cards. Although I think if you're splurging on on the MkII you can afford some more cards.

I missed a zero off there as previously noted, it would definitely be a killer if it did only hold 400 images from the 5D MkII.

I just purchased 3 8gb Extreme III cards in anticipation of the new 5D Mark II. I figure they'll store around 400 RAW per card which should be fine. (Maybe a little less)
Because of the rebates from Sandisk, I paid less for 3 cards (after rebate) than the price of one (without rebates). Pretty good deal for sure!
After rebates, I will have paid a total of $50.00 for all three cards! Pretty darn good deal I think!!!

These numbers are showing how incredibly fast technology is moving. It is just a bit spooky to me is all. I dont know, i guess i just remember when 8 megapixels was amazing and a 2 gig cf cost 120$. It honestly seemed like last week.

When you put it that way, I agree with you. It's amazing where it's all going and how fast it's going. Spooky, almost!

Dirt cheap, when you consider that the first 3GB cards ever offered were about 10x that cost;

Here is a better one: An infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar. The first one orders a beer. The second orders half a beer. The third, a quarter of a beer. The bartender says "You're all idiots", and pours two beers.

Not to mention the $15,000 pricetag (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0405/04052601pretec12gb.asp) on the first 12GB cards!
Incidentally, I find the capacity increases of these cards astounding; I made this little graph based on the Pretec annoucements on DP, capacity versus time (measured in months after august '99).

The size should be increasing exponentially in regular intervals until a certain limit is reached. Look at computer processors, ram, or hard drives. They all follow about the same path.

True, but I never get tired of seeing yet another example; I mean, it's a simple mathematical expression, yet complex industries dealing with profits, equipment supplies, and hundreds more variables, manage to conform almost perfectly!
