There has to be tons of these photos.

Im interested in what lens is a popular choice for the newborns. Ive got another baby coming and wanted to see what you all are using for photographing yours.

Congratulations on the news! I like using the Sigma 30 f/1.4. Great for indoors, available light.

I use a Canon 50mm F/1.4. It does great work for me in any situation. On my camera most of the time.

I use my 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM mostly although given enough space I do like to use the 70-200 f/4 L IS USM as that gives me even nicer pictures more consistently.

Best regards,

Anton

most of mine were/are with the 24-70L, we've got our second bundle of joy due in November so I've splashed out on a 50mm f/1.2L although i rather suspect after the first few weeks have gone by, I'll be back with the 24-70...

no kids (only 22)
i have suggestions though...
17-50 2.8 tamron
17-55 2.8 IS canon
30mm 1.4 sigma
50mm 1.4 canon
85mm 1.8 canon

basically anything f/2.8 or faster (for indoors use) and shorter than 100mm should be good.

Congratulations. I will be using the 35/1.4L and 50/1.4. Didn't have these the lat time round :)

I'm surprized that people can actually move in close enough with all their F/1.4 and F/1.2 lensen. Additionally you'd have to go very artistic (w/ regard to DOF) with such a large aperture. I did most shots with the EF50 macro, which allowed to to get a little bit closer, didn't burn a hole in my pocket. Also, unlike with several other macros I tested it auto focussed reliably at macro distances.

Just to provide you some numbers: On a crop sensor, the DOF of a 50mm @ F/1.4 and minimum focus distance of 45 cm is 4 mm!

Good luck with the baby!

I have generally used my Rokkor 58 f/1.2 and my Canon 100 f/2 with my daughter, who is almost 5 months old. When my Sigma 30 f/1.4 gets back from calibration, I'll use that from time to time as well.

X2 Congrats! As a newly expecting dad myself. (first one) I just picked up a 35L. This is a very very fast lens. Great for low light, no flash. I have a few months to get the hang of it.

Good luck!

I used the 100mm 2.8 macro for a lot of mine here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=562556) as well as the 85mm 1.8.

I've used my favorite lens: canon ef 85 1.8 In available light is simply wonderful and sharp even wide open.
