Hi,
this is my first post on your forum :)
I'm interested in buying the new Canon PowerShot SX1 IS but before i buy i'd like to know if there is a waterproof case available for that camera and if so what is the reference :???:

Seeing as it's nigh on impossible to get extras like these for cameras for a good few months after they actually hit the shelves, I'd guess you'll not get a firm idea of if there is one, and you can buy it for some time yet.

According to the Canon website (click here (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=StandardDisplayAct&fcategoryid=113&keycode=underwater_photo) to see the page), the following cameras DO NOT have Canon underwater housings.
"*PowerShot Pro Series, G6, G5, G3, G2, G1, S5 IS, S3 IS, S2 IS, SX10 IS, SX110 IS, SX100 IS, TX1, SD890 IS, SD430 Wireless, A2000 IS, A1000 IS, A700, A590 IS, A580, A560, A550, A530, A470, A460, A430, A410 and E1 do not have Waterproof or All Weather Cases."
Now, I don't see an SX1 camera even listed on the Canon website, unless it is out of production. Did you mean either the SX10 or SX100?
Probably have to go to third party manufactures like www.ikelite.com to find one.

Sorry, Mark, but that's Canon's US site, and the SX1 is not (at least for now) going to be available in the US. Maybe that's why is not listed in the site...
Am I right?

Right. But I don't get how people think a camera that just came out always is released with everything else possible to go with it...

Padrino,
Upon further investication, I think what is an SX1 in the rest of the world is an SX10 in the US. In any case, there still does not appear to be a Canon underwater housing for it.
And the likelihood of third party manufacturers doing a case for this camera is small. 28mm is barely wide enough to be used underwater, and you sure wouldn't use a 20X zoom underwater.
To Valerio;
Are you looking for an underwater setup for diving, or just for a case to protect the camera in places like the beach, etc.? If that is what you want, get the G9 with the Canon case. It is great for protection in harsh environments like the beach, and a pretty good underwater camera down to about 15 feet/4 meters. Any deeper than that and you really need external strobes for illumination. The onboard flash with the housing diffuser just doesn't get the job done at that depth.

No, investigate further. Two different, but similar cameras.
No SX1 in US yet.

Hi, There is a website www.digideep.com (http://www.digideep.com) that shows waterproof cases for almost any digital camera. The SX1 IS does not have a waterproof case as of yet, but you can check on other cameras that you might be interested in. Hope this helps.

While the SX10 (US) and SX1 (apparently Europe only) are certainly "cousins", the SX1 IS is dramatically different from any other PowerShot released to date in that it incorporates the first PowerShot CMOS sensor from Canon.
The SX1 IS is also the first PowerShot to produce full 1080 HD Video (if this is related to the CMOS sensor or not, I'm not sure, but probably).
Dpreview has some nice info: Two new Canon Superzooms including first CMOS PowerShot (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08091703canon_sx1is_sx10is.asp)

Ikelite has made a proper case, but it is rather expensive, aprx 800$, compared to what Canons usually costs. I don't think you will be able to use any wide-anle converter for this case...
Anything new about Canon producing their own case for this camera?
