Hello,

This is a picture of my wife - it was taken on an excursion with some of her classmates. I have always liked the photo and would like to get some input on it.

Originally, the photo was in full color, but I got rid of it. Heavy overhead shadows are usually a no-no, but short of blocking the sun, I dediced to play around with them. She was on a swing, so I just took pictures of her while she was playing on it. She seems still, but in fact the picture was taken while she was in motion (not full speed but stil moving).

Attached are a slightly modified original pic (sorry, lost the original one) and the modified, black and white pic.

Any other suggestions for this pic?

I actually prefer the colored version better.......it gives it a certain vibrancy to the whole picture. Love the emotion you captured.......Something you could do is to probably blur the background a bit............(its just a tad distracting).

Good job though.

Thanks for the input! The whole idea of doing it in black and white, besides the shadows (which were ok to begin with) and making the pic look a bit more classic, was because of the background. It is not out of place per se, but distracting from the main subject.

I'll definitely try your suggestion and post the result for critique. Any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

Well let's put it this way: for a photo exhibition, which one is the best? Thanks.

I like the color photo better, but I would start with some desaturation of the background:
