I am about to buy a 430EX, but can't figure out if there is any feature of the 430EX II that would make me want to wait.

The differences seem to be limited to:
a) quick release hot-shoe mount
b) 20% faster recycling

Is that it?

Thanks in advance...

Awesome, thanks!

Follow ups:

a) what does this mean: Custom functions controllable by DIGIC III and later digital cameras?

b) EDIT: The 430 EX FEC is 1 stop increments.... bummer (1/3 is much nicer). However, does this matter since I think I can just use the EC on the back of the 40D, right?

Thanks.

i don't have a 430 , but i have a XSI
I think it means that in the camera (like tthe XSI) there is a menu where you can control your flash functions

here are the improvements of the 430EX II over the 430EX:

1) Metal Hotshoe
2) Quick release mechanism
3) Silent recycle
4) Faster recycle
5) Nine Custom Functions (vs 6 on 430EX)
6) In-camera Flash Menu with Digic III or IV Cameras
(40D, 50D, 1D III, XSi, XS, G9, G10 etc.)

i have the same camera and i had the choices between the I or II, i end up going for the I becuase i dont really beat on my stuff (not metal mount), and i didn't really care for the built-in func cuz the flash on top of my camera.

plus it's cheaper and it's my first flash so i might upgrade but so far it's more then enought for me.
