Hey guys,
So i am looking to expand my portfolio, i have had a few people ask me about my work as they are looking to have some work done and have asked to see my portfolio which i honesty have neglected and don't have much of one. Most of my work is with the same couple of ladies locally. So i find these people shy away because of that and i want to expland with new faces and looks.
What i am looking to find out is where or who could i contact regarding hiring some local talent. I would love to be able to just do Time for Prints if possible to start but understand to get the look i want ( Glamour and artistic nude ) alot of people i aproach seem to shy away very fast.
Can anyone locally suggest a model they have worked with in this type of shoot.. the shoots would happen in my home studio.
Can anyone local to me suggest what the going rates would be for something like this?
Any help on this would be great.
thanks in advance.
Michael.

yea i had check them out as well as one model place.
I was kind of hoping someone locally knew someone who was just getting into or just looking to get into the business and was just looking for a opertunity to work for experience and prints.

When i looked at Model Mayhem before (when I was hoping to be able to do the same thing you are and my wife put an abrupt end of the idea of it..lol) there were some there on the website that fit that build. You might need to broaden your views a little. Do you have craigslist up there? I have seen some thing on there as well. Matter of fact there wasa girl about 90 miles away wanting someone to take pics of her for the Suicide Girls website. Dang! Another missed opportunity. You might try that website too (suicid girls) as they have some casting calls type stuff on there. You might get some opportunities there. I just think that the photographers can't solicit the girls on there. And that would definitely give a differen't look to your portfolio!

As a suggestion, you might want to contact some of your local POTN members and ask them the question directly, otherwise you're kind of hoping they'll stumble across this thread and give you an answer. That might not occur for quite a while, if at all.
On the other hand, I have been using One Model Place and Model Mayhem reliably for years to work with new models. Sometimes I do TFP, more often the girls pay me or I pay them (depending on who is needing what done). Here in my area, you can usually expect to pay anywhere from $25-$50 USD per hour for nude models, depending on the girl's experience, but the rates vary from city to city.
Good luck.

Hey michael I just looked at Craigslist for Toronto and there area good bit of listings for models and photographers (although someone wants to photograph a woman peeing and pooping) on there. Some photographers put on there looking for models. Migh want to give it a try.

EEEEEEEK!! Perhaps that would go in the "experimental" photo-sharing section?
People terrify me...

Hi Michael
I'm local. I do a lot of lingerie shoots and will be doing implied nudes may be nudes. MM is not bad but you have to network with the models first. They're alot of GWC out there who see a model's port and ask her to shoot nude on a TF basis. That usually won't work.
Here's what appears to be working for me and I'll caveat this with saying that the timing hasn't worked out that I've actually shot with someone off MM because I've been busy with my day job. But should change soon. Most of my models I've met at the gym or events.
1. Net work with the models, Send friend request followed by an email or a tag letting them know what you do and what you're looking for.
2. Review their port an comment.
3. Find out what they're looking for in return and be up front. Don't waste their time which will ultimately waste yours.
4. Network with the models.
By this time you should have an idea of who will do the type of shoots you want.
Good luck

Sorry but this pisses me off royally when I see this comment. And sorry Woodsters I'm not directing this at you but that whole attitude that you do photography as long as you don't shoot other women. Actually it surprises me with you Woodsters as you wife seems so free in front the camera and as been shot so many times I would think she has a good grasp of what a shoot entails. Unless of course you use the shoots for foreplay :D.
I can say this because my wife WAS the same. I went from IT to shooting sports to shooting women in lingerie. I explained to her that I was serious about this and that I didn't need to spend this kind of time and money to see naked booty. There were cheaper ways to do that. Based on some advice from a playboy shooter he said take her in the studio for one of you sessions and make her stay the entire shoot, not just visit. I took his advice a little further and shot my wife for 5 and half hours 12 outfit changes. At the end of the shoot she was tired and worn out. Never bugged me after that. I show her everything I shoot and now get shoot ideas from her.
Women have to trust.
Sorry for rambling but this is one of those things that irks me.

what do you typically look under in Craigslist? Search models under the Gigs section? Resume area? Im hoping to do the same but for Ottawa.

My experience with model mayhem is not a positive one.
It's full of immature people. The models are young and fickle, a lot of them do it for the attention and never bother to show up for a shoot. You have to go out of your way for each and every one of them to prove that you're not a perv.
This is justifiable, because there ARE a lot of pervs on MM, but it doesn't help you get results.
Unless you're time is worth less than your money, I would suggest working with talent which is experienced, has good portfolio and has rates. You'll pay them 50-70 bucks for two hours, they'll go in expecting a nude shoot and you won't have a headache with no-shows and flakes.
I'm sure OMP is similar.

If you just go to the location that's convienent to you and type in model in the search box, you should get some or a lot of finds there depending on the locale.

I guess i will have to defend her somewhat here...she has no problem with me taking photos of her. She knows its a hobby of mine and supports it, but that really has no bearing on whether she wants me with another woman like that. Your advice from the playboy shooter is great as long as your taking photos like this. But has no bearing of how to show her if you cAn't do it in the first place. If I kept my wife taking pictures for 5 1/2 hours, I would be removing the camera out of behind. We've done it for at least an hour if not longer at times. Depends on the conditions. We both work full time jobs and commute 45 minutes to over an hour each way (depending on traffic). We have 2 kids. One that is 17 and one that is 7. Once you deal with everything, there is no time during the week for this. We have to result to the weekends. And then it has to end up being late at night and then in the bedroom (once again because of kids). By that time you are worn out and patience is worn thin.
As far as the foreplay thing...well I will say the sex is pretty dang good afterwards...

Gonna keep an eye on this thread, MM and CL are the obvious choices, but there have got to be other, better ways in this city.
On the plus side, here at UofT there are quite a few people trying to break into the industry who'd be up for TFP shoots, shouldn't be too hard to find.

have you tried Facebook?
Woodsters, I'm not sure you got my point. BTW no need to defend her, I'm not attacking her otherwise I would be attacking my wife also. My point was/is why do women feel intimidated if their men take sexy photos of other women? In your case in particular I found it surprising given how liberal your wife is in front of the camera. That's it.
Like you we both work full-time jobs, commute to work, have 2 boys that play many sports. So our evenings are spent with who's dropping off whom at which practice and who's picking up after practice. Weekends are spent with who is playing where and who is taking whom to which field.
I gave up golf to spend more time honing my photographic skills and to pay for studio time :).
We set aside that day for her shoot, booked a studio and an MUA. I treated her like she was a paying model.
Cheers,

I took a nude photo course at Humber a couple of years ago. The models were students. Can't remember the instructor's name offhand but he's a known figure/nude photographer in Toronto. You could try contacting the photo department at Humber to see if they have models available.
I've also shot my wife in the past but as other's have said having teenagers around the house makes it difficult to get the necessary privacy. I like the idea of renting a studio for it though.

ive heard you can rent studios. That thought crossed my mid. Do they have props, equipment etc there or just the space?

They come with lights, props, PW and everything you need.
www.studio204.ca - $40/hr incl. lights min 2 hour
www.spectrum-studios.com - 4 studios to choose from. $30/hr plus lights. Great for shooting nudes and glam. Complete privacy. This is where I shot my wife.
Different studios have different looks.
Tell them I recommended them.
