A friend of mine has offered me a Sunpak Power Zoom 4000AF flash for my Digital Rebel. I have heard there are only certain flashes that work with DR.
Is this one of them?
Thanks for the help.

No. Canon DSLRs require E-TTL flashes for automatic exposure. You can, however, use the flash in auto-thyristor mode. In this mode, the flash calculates the exposure. It may cause lock-ups as well.

it won't work 'automatically', as in it won't give you the proper exposure with the camera. for this, you need a lens which is canon ettl compatible.
it will, however, work fine in manual mode and not *too* bad in 'P' mode. i have the pz5000af as a slave on my bracket to my sigma. i've tested it by itself and you can get some decent results if you're patient and understand exposures pretty well.

Sorry to disappoint you. I have an EOS 350D and a Sunpak PZ4000AF (from my EOS 50E days). This flash is incompatible with the Digital EOS cameras and it simply won't work at all. I'm saving up for a Speedlite 420 or 430EX now.

I found this thread searching about my old Sunpak 4000AF. I know it's an old thread, but I thought I would comment for future reference. I tried using the Sunpak 400af on my 7D and it would only fire on the 2nd curtain. I just received a Yongnuo RF-602 wireless transmitter/receiver and used it on the flash and found it to work perfectly. So instead of selling my old flash, I now can add it to my other flashes, but only using the wireless trigger.
