These were taken last week-end at a nearby park. The heron (not sure of specific variety, but maybe Bob will tell us) was stalking food very intently. When he struck, my shutter speed wasn't fast enough to prevent motion blur, but I actually prefer it that way. Anyhow, the splash was still spreading out when I fired.

Handheld, D-Rebel with 75-300 mm IS.

Gosh you are on a roll . . . I love exotic birds, lol. Or at least they are to me.

I can't tell the bird size, but it looks to be the Little Blue Heron, (Egretta caerulea), which is common to the SE United States.

I agree with Superfly... the action with the water splash is pretty cool! Looks like the heron was just slightly faster than your shutter speed though.

You can really see the intense stare in the first shot as it's hunting for food.

Thanks for your comments. I tend to agree, Bob. He was about 18 inches or so, definitely smaller than a Great Blue.

A little Blue indeed, and thus I am jealous! We never them in these parts ;)

Great shots,. the action shot is very nice timing :)
