Hi all!

Took my G9 to the Classic FM Live concert last night and was very pleased with its performance! All but the first and last shots were taken at ISO 400 and filtered using NoiseNinja.

That's very impressive! Wow, I'm surprised actually considering what some people have posted.

Thanks :) I find JPGs useable up to ISO400 .... although of course at that ISO you've got quite a bit of pixellation due to noise and compression ... but it's still useable. I never touch ISO800 or 1600 as they start to put a strong blue hue over the images, never mind the noise they produce!

The close-up shots were all biased at -2 EV such that the skin tones weren't blasted into oblivion

Cheers :)

WOW! These are some of the best results I've seen from a g9 in the dark!

Very nice framing, colors, and composition of some fine subjects...

Good showing... especially with the wider angle captures... Thanks for sharing.

Hogster, these are absolutely breathtaking! The colors are so true where they need to be, the clarinetist's blue dress, for example. Someone looking over my shoulder here commented as well, how beautiful these are. Great job, and thanks for sharing with us.

Excellent. I am as other imressed with picture quality. Panorama is great.
I use E-510, but considereing G10. This will help.

Thanks very much everyone! :D I was very pleased with the results :) I would have shot RAW if I had access to a piece of software that could handle the RAW files  The JPEG compression crushed a lot of the detail I think ...

Still, the results weren't bad :) The close-up shots were all taken at full zoom (and handheld) – the I.S. did its stuff!!

David

PS. I wished the G10 had a large 8 or 10MP sensor and an F2 lens .... Can only dream now I guess

The G10 has a 14.7 mp sensor.

Yeah it does, but I wish it had a larger sensor with FEWER pixels = better low-noise performance ... sadly Canon, like virtually every other camera manufacture believe that their sales will be directly proportional to the number of pixels in their cameras :(

My 2p ;)

pretty good looking shots.

I had the chance to try out my G9 in a concert setting recently at a Radiohead gig. I got plenty of motion blurred shots of course, but it kinda depends on the available light at any moment.
here's a couple of panoramas....

I'm blown away.
I'd say these shots far out perform any attempt with my 30D and any L lens I have.
My G5 always rides shotgun since the day it appeared.

Another few from this evening! ... same event, same place!

No noise reduction on any of them, and they were all taken at ISO400 ... shutter speeds 1/10s -> 1/25s roughly ... handheld!

Wow! After seeing this I'm really thinking about buying this camera (maybe G10) to add it to my camera bag...

Simply admirable.
I own a G9 and never thought it's capable of producing such beautiful images in low light or contrasting lights, such as those you have posted.

Great photos n awesome panorama! Ive only ever done em with 3-5photos side by side in better lighting let alone 30 in low lighting! How did u manage it? did u have to line them all up or just take a stream of em n stitch em all up like a jigsaw puzzle?

On my G10 i generally set it at ISO 400 as the maximum and similar shutter speed to u as well and hope the stage is well lit. But as the G10 has less zoom i lower the resolution to get a bit more so i dont have to crop afterwards. And i always try and wait for/predict the moments when they people arent moving.
