I took these photos a couple weeks ago at the lovely Bank of America Pavilion on the Boston waterfront. It was the first time ever that I had some steaming clam chowder at a concert venue!

The only thing I can say about this show is this...it was the best concert I have ever seen by anyone in 40+ years of concert going. No kidding, it was THAT special. It was the first time ever I was happy to stop shooting after 3 songs. I was then able to watch the show.

As always, comments and critique are most welcome. For those who might be shooting The Cardinals in the upcoming days, hang on to your hats. Also, and this is a good thing, they just revamped the lights after the show I saw and brightened up the stage a lot, which hasn't happened with Ryan in a long time. Of course they did it after my show...lol.

Love 'em....even with some of the out of control blues.

Not a soundboard shoot this time around?

the out of control blues.

That's what I don't like about them ;)

For the rest: nice images.

#6 for me.

man, that lighting is ROUGH! esp the blues...good set regardless, but i'd have been far more into monochroming this set.

no mention of his waiver, tony? ;)

I agree when the blues and greens saturate you get lots of blown highlights.... B?W can help but is not a fix a lot of times.

No soundboard for this one. Actually I had a front row ticket right in front of Ryan thanks to a friend. As for the out of control blues, that is pretty much like it was. There were constantly changing light levels, rotating cans and my light meter was jumping from way to dark to totally blown out every 1/2 sec or so. I strive to make it look like it was and am actually pleased in how they turned out. Live Daily had a 'tog there and his photos didn't come out nearly as well.

Believe it or not, Rene, the blues are not really blown out. See above. There is some amazing detail when I look at them full-sized. Still, not at all easy to capture what I did. With the rotating/pulsing lights 1/2 sec before would be too dark, 1/2 sec later too bright.

Nobody said this job was going to be easy. Considering I have shot Ryan at 1/15 sec and barely could see anything, this was easier! As for the waiver, I never saw it...I think I had special dispensation or something...lol. BTW, you were right about RA's new squeeze. I think it's a good match. Can't wait to see your photos of her. Loved her since BBs.

Many of those shot look terrible converted. Too many hot spots which I guess I could mask away, but it would take forever to do.

I'm not referring to them being blown out, but rather to the "transitions" that are happening. Most noticable in the face in #4 and 5: "Solid" light blue to grayish purple.
The solid light blue should be lighter IMO.
It's a brighter area, but because of the conversion it gets "solid blue" with a lower luminosity then the area right next to it which is (should be) darker.

Hope you understand what I mean ;)

Awesome.

Just simply awesome.

I wish mine from Telluride this past summer turned out like those.

I've shot The Cardinals a bunch of times in the past 3 years and each lighting scheme has given me fits in exposure. It seems that you have to break the rules to capture them. Believe me, I feel your pain.

Yes, they are colorful. Thanks, John.
