computer won't read CF card - HELP!

I did a photo shoot today with my Canon xti using a friends 4G card. She has different Canon SLR and in the excitement I forgot to reformat the CF card for my camera.

Needless to say, I took all the shots and they look great in camera. When I plugged my camera into my computer to start downloading the photos it just lagged. Then I realized I never formated it.

Is there any way that I can get these photos safely? I'm afraid if I try too much they will just get corrupted. (Something similar happened just over a year ago and I'd hate to mess it up again).

Get a card reader. They are very inexpensive and it will transfer much faster than connecting your camera to the computer. As a matter of fact I never connect my camera to the computer to download pictures only to make adjustments to PFn.
