Tried something new tonight, set a custom WB this time, but for some reason it messed with the Ice, but the shirts came out great. Also found the AI Servo mode, man that is nice , and last but not least, I'm trying to crop tighter, so let me know what you think about them. I have to have 5 photo's I can send to sportsshooter.com so they can critque, it seems they turn down more then they accept so this should be great.

i like the crop on 1,2, and 3, but perhaps slightly looser on 4. 5 and 6 however lose somthing by beeing that tight. i can see why you did with 6 as it puts the emphasis on the puck but definately 5 needs to be a little bit more loose, maybe low enough to get the entire guy in front and wide enough to grab the whole net, just guessing.
as for the WB, your right, the jerseys look ten fold better than your other shots, but now you have dirty ice. i wish i could help you there as to how to get a nice balance but i haven't been able to get to any rinks since my first shoot. tomorrow i am going to be in a rink again with not so good lighting so we'll see how i fare and if i can come up with anything. good stuff though i like how the shots look like they are all from different angles.

If I don't set a custom WB then the ice comes out ok, but the jersey's look dull. I think I would rather have the shirts come out white then the ice. But I have another game tonight and tomorrow to work on it. So any help would be great.

Hey swatcop169 you may want to check in this sports section I have been offering some advice to another member there are some tips and sample pictures there. look for UHL. with the white balance the best thing to do is use a grey card not something white as it suggests. When you shoot something white if there is any colour cast in it you will get a false reading? Did you shoot something white that was on the ice. If so you were recording the yellowish colour of the arena lights which may explain why your ice has a yellowish cast to it. To use the grey card I wait until after the warm up the players leave the ice and the guy comes out to clean. I step out on to the ice and angle the grey card up to the lights at approx. 30 degree angle snap a shot record it as your white balance. If you make up a little hand written sign that says arena for example hold that over the card when you shoot it. Then you can lock or protect that image from being erased you are now strating to build up your custom library and you don't need to shoot the grey card before every game because it on your card.
Hope this helps.
Check out the UHL post for some more tips then you will know what I would have to say about your pictures.

Don't forget to shoot the gray card under the conditions you will be shooting at the game. Arenas usually have florecent lighting most houses don't they have inconescent which gived off a yellowish cast that is why your ice is yellow.
Good luck

I liked your other photos, but these are even better. That's great. You are on the right track for setting the white balance, it will help for sure but you have to set it under the same conditions your shooting, so you must shoot the grey card at the arena not before. Much better cropping... great shots, I'll let you know if I can get some decent hockey shots but it might be another year....:(
