Hi all

I got the replacement manuel for my IXUS 40/SD300 so now i know how to work it! (after i lost it) but now an even worse problem...

This happened 3 days  since buying it:

1) When I switch it on to take photos, after a while it suddenly freezes on the last thing it sees, it wont work, then after 20 secs it switches itself off (power light goes off) but without the lense retracting. I then have to switch it back on again but it randomly continues to do this

I havnt spoken to the canon helpline yet and ive looked into the the trouble shooting section with no success, but if anyone can help i would so welcome it.

Regards

Jim

p.s If its a major prob then im gonna send it back to the people i got it from!

Jim... sounds major to me... I would try the people you got it from first... walk intot he shop with the item and recipt, show them what happens, and ask for a replacement... if nothing is forthcoming, then try canon, stating that you have been in touch with the vendor.

Sounds like the infamous E18 error that is notoriously common on the Powershot Elph/Ixus series cameras. This happens when the lens mechanism is jammed or damaged. When the camera can't fully extend/retract the lens, it powers itself off. Typically, you will hear a series of short beeps and then the "E18" message appears in the lower left-hand corner of the LCD before shutting down completely.
