Well it is time to replace my existing pc and I have following 2 pre-configured machines in mind. What do you think? It is only going to be used for photo editing with PS CS3/CS4.

1:
Core2Quad Q9400 6MB 4x2,66GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P45 DS3L
8GB DDRII-800 PC6400 (Corsair)
Nvidia GeForce GTX260 896MB PCI-E
2 x Samsung 1000GB harddisk S-ATAII 3Gb/s Fluid (32MB cache)
2 x WD Raptor 150GB with Vista 64 bit installed on one and the other for PS scratch disk

2:
Core2Quad Q9400 6MB 4x2,66GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P45T DS3
8 GB DDR3-1333 RAM DualChannel (Corsair)
Nvidia QuadroFX 1700 512MB PCI-E
2 x Samsung 1000GB harddisk S-ATAII 3Gb/s Fluid (32MB cache)
2 x WD Raptor 150GB with Vista 64 bit installed on one and the other for PS scratch disk

I am leaning towards #2 which also is the most expensive (and hopefully more powerfull).

ps I know how to build my own but choose to buy a preconfigured AND tested pc.

Presumably for reliability, so have you considered a Mac?

Are you gaming? Because a GTX260 is overkill for Photoshop. Also, if you were considering a GTX260, take a look at AMD's offerings this generation too. They simply has the better value cards this time round with their 4850/4870s.

Absolutely NOT. And thats all that is going to be said about Mac in this thread. Any other posts about Mac in this thread will be deleted.

With cs3 there would be no speed difference between the 2.
With cs4 it would depend on how well the gpu acceleration works but overall I don't think there would be a difference.
The 260 is the faster card but the 1700 comes with extended opengl drivers for cad software.
If looks like cs4 does not support the added extensions and the 260 meets the needed features so I would go with the 260.

ddr3 vs ddr2 ram wont make a difference either right now.

I'd go with System #1.

QuadroFX and GTX260 are both overkill for this system. CS3 won't use it at all, while CS4 will. But you wait and read reviews on which cards accelerate which CS4 features first otherwise you're wasting your money

Hmmm. Interesting, open-minded response from a genuine question...

Well that is because I am sick and tired of people suggesting Mac's when someone asks about pc's. If I wanted opinions about those systems listed vs Mac then I would have asked about that.

Thanks to those that stuck to the subject.
