Hey, folks.

I'm trying to calibrate my PowerBook's display for better color management, I've had quite a few people complain that the photos on my gallery site were too dark or otherwise didn't look right on Windows machines, I'm assuming because I use Mac standard gamma at 1.8 instead of Windows standard 2.2.

I have access to an optical calibrator, but I don't know how well that works for laptop LCD screens. I'm thinking the best compromise might be to have several profiles, one for each location in which I edit photos (to reflect ambient light, desk height & LCD angle, etc.)

For those of you who use laptops, what's your preferred method of calibration, or how do you handle this problem?

If you are going to be using Photoshop for editing or even sharing your images with Windows users, the reommendation is to use the 2.2 gamma.

I have the iBook and I'm not sure how it compares with the PowerBook as far as LCD screen is concerned but on mine, the colors are NOT "true" compared to the colors on my Cinema Display screen hooked up to my G5. And this is with the iBook LCD calibrated using Spyder Pro and Optical.

However, when I attach my 17" VGA monitor to the iBook, the colors on it look almost identical to the colors on the Cinema Display (after calibrating the VGA monitor via the Apple System Preferences panel). So, for me, if I'm going to be doing any serious photoshopping on my laptop, it's going to be with an external monitor attached.
