I believe this to be a wood pecker of some type, perhaps one of the 'regular' bird types can help with a name or such. Anyway hunting little birds and such has turned out to be great sport.

That looks like a Red-Shafted Flicker.

Red Shafted Flicker . . . ok, lol, they don't sit long, at least for me. One day when I get my SF 9000 up and working the will. Thank you.

Nice shot RJ. My first flicker had me fooled, too. Took me a while to find it.
And they say that flickers are an extremely common bird, but I've only seen a few.

Thats a flicker of some kind, but I have only seen one and someone else had to identify it. But yours looks like mine :)

Wyoming must be Gods country, you've captured so many great shots up there. I would add a post to all of your recent photos(Moose,Goose) but figured I'd just say it all in one.
Well done!
