I at first thought this a piece of string or 'swamp stuff' but upon further review, I find it to be a muskrat trap. Bad luck for this goose . . . this shot in and of itself is nothing, but the detail shown on the leg, is most unusual, at least for me. I felt better not knowing.

Yep that's pretty rotten. Doesn't look to be attached to firmly. Hopefully it break free soon.
All that said, it is a very timely capture of the image. Nicely done.

I made the mistake of letting my wife see this . . . she called the Wildlife Cops, who knows they might be able to net it and free the bird. But I think the value of one goose to the state not enough to get up off of their duffs. Just my thoughts on them.
That new Canon 100-400 shows more detail than I want at times.

There's often an argument between trappers and recreationists up here. Traps are often pretty close to the road and I know more than one person whose family dog has ended up in a trap!

Well the division of wildlife services called me and asked for a location . . . so I told them where to find my hide-out and they are going to try to catch it. My wife can give a heck of a phone call, lol. Anyway, who knows . . . they might pull it off. We can hope at least and all that could be done was . . . It will make a good story on the the ten o'clock news for them.

Yeah, shots like this do suck in a way. I hope the "cops" can help it out.

I don't know if it is the male or the female of this pair that has the 'muskrat trap' affixed to its leg, and in this day of equality and such . . . I guess it don't matter much. But it does give a new meaning to the old 'Ball and Chain.'

Great detail on the geese, especially with objects between you and them.

Yes . . . sorry about that. I would never post something like this, except for finding the attached item.
The Canon 100-400 shoot what I aim at, the Sigma BigMa did not. The end story is I get a LOT more usable shots, but then you guys all know this.

It makes me utterly sick to my stomach that there are human beings in this world with no regard for animal welfare. I'd love to be the guy sitting and waiting for the scumbag returning to check his trap so I can take it and attach it to his balls.
Aside from the subject matter, it is a well captured image. Well done.
