What width paper for background?

Shooting mainly babies and little kids would 53" be wide enough or should I stop being cheap(:lol:) and go for the 107" stuff?

I thought about 53" for portraits of my little ones, but I sprung for the 107". It will definitely pay off for me because I already have people asking to take pictures of their families. You never know when you might need it.

I'm starting out with the 53" because my car is only so long and I'm going to have to strap those rolls to the top of it somehow. I figured I would try to get away with as little length as possible.

3m is my recommendation... whats that in inches?
remember the further away from the bg that you position the subject, the more narrow the bg appears thru the lens

I'd be springing for the 3m (107"?) backdrop.... I think having one half that size would be very limiting, especially if you wanted to get up close with a wide angle.

Thanks for the input folks! I am dreading the $16 shipping charge on the 9' roll but since there is no camera place close and I don't know if the one in Madison carries it (plus the logistial issues of a 9' roll of paper on the freeway for over an hour) I'm thinking that I'll suck it up and it'd probably be cheaper in the long run. :D

9 feet!!! i dont have a car but calumet ships it for a low cost.
remember to put yoru subject at least 5 feet from the BG and t hat will make your nerroe BG even more nerrow...get 9 feet and have no worries =)

That's something to think about. It sounds like a good deal as far as the shipping provided you use the heck out of it. ;)

Agree 107" is better. With 53" you will need to shoot with longer focal length to avoid getting corners of the paper bg.

Here in bay area, getting it shipped comes cheaper than buying at local stores.
